NASA is now planning on staging its orbiting cislunar infrastructure in a Near-Rectilinear Halo Orbit (NRHO). This type of orbit was a strong candidate for an asteroid redirect mission, which was proposed during the Obama Administration. From there, Orion will begin a series of powered flyby and insertion burns to place itself into the cislunar DRO. SLS will place Orion on a lunar transfer trajectory that passes within approximately 100 kilometers of the lunar surface. Now re-branded as Artemis 1, the mission will see the Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) program launch Orion on top of the first Space Launch Systems (SLS) vehicle from Kennedy Space Center. Formerly called Exploration Mission-1, this first combined test flight for the three programs in ESD plans to send an uncrewed Orion spacecraft on a cislunar Distant Retrograde Orbit (DRO) trajectory. The Artemis 1 mission to the Moon has had a long history of planning. On a particular day that has a launch opportunity, the Exploration Ground Systems (EGS), Orion, and SLS programs will have a launch window that will vary from a few minutes to a few hours. In general, NASA will have daily opportunities to launch this first Artemis mission to the Moon in an approximately “two weeks on, two weeks off” pattern. The Orion and Space Launch System (SLS) Programs in the Exploration Systems Development (ESD) division are working together to calculate when the Earth, Moon, and sometimes the Sun are all in the right positions to support the agency’s requirements for this first joint Orion-SLS test flight. When the flight hardware and ground systems are finally ready for the inaugural Artemis 1 launch to the Moon, NASA will also have to synchronize the timing of the flight with unique celestial mechanics.

We will travel along the coast around sunset. The sight of these gentle giants is breathtaking and the experience of swimming with these large, peaceful creatures is exhilarating. Along the West Coast over 240 Manta Rays have been identified since 1979. Lights are placed in the water, which attract the plankton, which then attracts the Manta Rays. They are filter feeders, with plankton as their only source of food. Unlike other rays, Mantas have no teeth, stinger or barbs, so they are completely safe to be around. Hawaii Manta Rays have a wingspan of 4-16+ feet across and can weigh up to 1000 pounds. The Big Island of Hawaii is the only place in the world that has resident Manta Rays that consistently come to feed at the same locations throughout the year. Q: Are you guaranteed to see manta rays on a manta ray snorkel?Ī: There is a 90 to 95% chance of seeing manta rays on a manta ray snorkeling cruise, and depending on the tour, if you do not see manta rays, you will often get your money back or you can go back on the tour for free.Ī: The Big Island manta rays are mostly found in Keauhou Bay at Manta Village and Manta Heaven.Manta Ray Night Snorkel - Tour Information Snorkeling equipment and flotation devices are provided, but you should still feel comfortable swimming in the water. Q: Do I need to know how to swim to manta ray snorkel?Ī: Yes, since this activity is out in open water, all participants should be know how to swim. Very minimal snorkeling effort is required. You will float at the surface, holding onto the light board watching as the manta rays come swooping in beneath you. The lights attract the plankton, and the plankton attracts the mantas. Floating light boards are used to light up the ocean from the surface to the ocean floor. Book this activity early to make sure you get a spot on a manta ray snorkeling tour.įrequently Asked Questions Q: How does manta ray night snorkeling work?Ī: Your guides will begin your manta experience with a thorough explanation of everything manta. Many of the best manta ray night snorkels in Kona book up days or weeks in advance. These tours depart right before sunset so you can watch the sky come alive in an array of colors before heading into the water. If you would like to see some of the best Hawaiian sunset views, book a sunset tour with your manta snorkel. Not to worry though, all guests will be provided with flotation devices. The manta ray swims are all open water ocean tours, and while you do not need to have any prior snorkeling experience, you should be comfortable swimming.Do not touch the manta rays! They have a protective mucus coating on their skin, and touching the mantas could lead to infections or worse for the manta rays.Manta rays will come to you since they are attracted to the lights placed in the water, so all you will need to do is wait as they come up and swim beneath you in search of plankton. Stay calm and quiet while in the water.Guests who are prone to motion sickness should plan on taking a motion sickness preventative one hour prior to departure.Wear your swimsuit under your clothing since some boats do not have restrooms, and boat restrooms are often quite small and difficult to change in.You will want to bring a large towel and a hoodie or jacket to wear on the boat ride back to the pier. Since this tour happens at night, it can be rather chilly once you get out of the water and back on to the boat.It is no wonder that almost all Big Island manta ray snorkel tours depart from this area, and has become one of the most popular ocean adventures in all of Hawaii. This area is known for having an almost 100% chance of seeing manta rays, with an average of three to five seen on any given evening. The main areas where the Kona manta rays can be found are called Manta Village and Manta Heaven, both located right off the coast of the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort & Spa. Some of the Big Island manta rays can live to be 50 years old, and University of Hawaii marine life biologists and other researchers have named each and every one of them! Kona manta rays will eat plankton as their main source of food, and since microscopic plankton are found in abundance off of the Kona shores, the manta rays spend their entire lives in these waters. While the manta rays you will see in Kona will normally be around 12 feet in length, they move with a grace and beauty that is absolutely mesmerizing. These manta rays are some of the largest species of manta rays in the world and can have a wingspan that spans up to 18 ft in length. Learn about Hawaiian Manta RaysThe Hawaii manta rays in Kona are reef manta rays that are the Mobula alfredi species. (List adapted from Center for Teaching, Vanderbilt University) Teaching is an evolving, reflective process, and Teaching Statements can be adapted and changed as necessary. Mention students in an enthusiastic, not condescending way, and illustrate your willingness to learn from your students and colleagues. Avoid clichés, especially ones about how much passion you have for teaching. Teaching Statements are not exhaustive documents and should be used to complement other materials for the hiring or tenure processes. Try not to simply repeat what is in your CV. Avoid jargon and technical terms, as they can be off-putting to some readers.Explain how you advance your field through teaching. This will help the reader to better visualize you in the classroom. Ground your ideas in 1-2 concrete examples, whether experienced or anticipated. Make it specific rather than abstract. This allows the Teaching Statement to be both personal and reflective. Use a narrative, first-person approach.3-5 pages or more), for hiring purposes they are typically 1-2 pages in length. While Teaching Statements are probably longer at the tenure level (i.e. Make your Teaching Statement brief and well written.General Guidelines for your Teaching Philosophy Statement With this file at hand, it will be a much easier job to pull together or revise your teaching philosophy statement, and include examples to illustrate how you translate your teaching philosophy into effective classroom practices that facilitate student learning. what new innovations you have incorporated into your teaching.what you have done to change or enhance your teaching practices. how your thinking about your teaching practices has evolved.how you enact your teaching beliefs in your courses.Don’t leave it until the time when a polished teaching philosophy statement is needed. Once you have articulated your beliefs and practices as an instructor, it is far easier to jot down relevant examples of your teaching strategies and successes as you go. The sooner you start thinking about your teaching philosophy, the easier it is to formulate a statement when you need it. If you seek a career as an academic, ideally you should begin to articulate your teaching philosophy in graduate school. Developing Your Teaching Philosophy Statement As well, teaching philosophy statements are usually required for nominations for teaching awards, such as the 3M National Teaching Award. For instance, if you are a proponent of team-based learning, you could seek out new approaches to group learning that would make it a better/more effective learning experience for your students.Īnother reason to have a teaching philosophy statement is that it is increasingly common to ask for such a statement as part of the application process for tenure track positions. Early in your career, it is very helpful to have gone through the process of reflecting about your own teaching, which gives you a better idea of your beliefs and strengths as an instructor and the ways in which you could develop your teaching practices over time. However, this is not the only time a teaching philosophy statement is useful. Why Write a Statement of Your Teaching Philosophy?Ī statement of your teaching philosophy is often a required or highly recommended part of a tenure dossier, so many instructors only develop teaching philosophy statements during the tenure submission process. small classes etc.), and program-related teaching requirements (e.g. Teaching philosophy statements are unique to each individual and reflect contextual factors such as the discipline, influential mentors, personal educational experiences, type of teaching (graduate vs. A teaching philosophy statement is a written description of your values, goals, and beliefs regarding both teaching and learning… and uses evidence from your teaching to make the case that you have excelled as a teacher… As a general expression of your beliefs and practices, your teaching philosophy can shape your syllabi or introduce your course website. Stealthy frame… the battery pack is completely integrated into the downtube and paint matched, the TranzX M25GTS motor is round so it hides behind the chainring and is smaller, lighter and quieter than some of the earlier TranzX / Currie Electrodrive designs like the M07.Feature complete with quality SKS plastic fenders, a standard gauge rear carry rack, an ABUS frame lock and integrated LED lights! It’s ready to commute in any conditions. This is a very unique, feature rich electric bike and I’m thoroughly impressed with the component choices, custom frame and warranty… though I wish they had included bottle cage bosses, two sets would have been nice in fact! I’m glad they produced multiple size options (small, medium, large) for better fit amongst a range of rider body types, at high speed and longer distance it’s especially important to get a good fit. One extra bonus with the TranzX system is that you can purchase a $50 boost button to add throttle on demand and the motor is so strong it will literally carry you up hills (when using the lower or mid level gears). If you want to go this route I suggest the IZIP E3 Peak or Peak DS. You could replace the hybrid slick tires with knobby ones for trail and off-road riding but it might be too much for the fork and the accessories would get rattly. The pack should charge 50%+ in the first couple of hours because the cells don’t have to be balanced (which slows charging). The range will be more limited if you ride at high speed but you could always grab an extra battery pack (at just 5.6 lbs it would be easy to stash in a trunk bag) or bring the light 1.8 pound charger along for top offs every ~35 miles or so. The IZIP E3 Pro Tour would make a solid commuter or potentially even touring / trekking electric bike. The chainring features an aluminum alloy guide that should keep the chain on track if you encounter bumpy terrain and protect the sprocket teeth if you hop a steep curb and bash the middle of the bike. By not including a second or third front sprocket they reduced the need for tuneups, kept the price lower and focused weight-addition on the utilitarian extras… the medium sized ProTour weighed ~54 lbs which isn’t bad considering all of the included accessories. Ten speeds is just enough to hit the 28 mph top speed where the motor cuts out and SLX is one of the highest groupsets I’ve seen on any of the IZIP electric bikes. Both wheels also offer quick release for easy transport or tuneups and I love the Shimano SLX drivetrain components. I love that the frame, fork, spokes and other accessories are dark or black because it creates a cohesive mean look that also helps the cables and wires blend in (though most are internally routed). Both rims and hubs are upgraded with brass nipples, larger 13 mm spokes and thru axles (15 mm front and 12 mm rear) which should handle the increased forces of higher speed riding and the large 180 mm hydraulic disc brakes. Complimenting this are larger 700 x 45c (1 5/8″ diameter) tires, comfortable ergonomic grips and a basic seat post suspension. The ProTour delivers a nimble commuter style suspension fork that’s narrower and offers modest 63 mm travel but includes lockout adjust. This motor still isn’t as responsive or refined as Bosch but it’s much improved over earlier generations from TranzX and this keeps the price of the bike lower at $2999. I found that it operated quite well but did suffer from some mashing of the chain, sprockets and derailleur when shifting while pedaling due to the lack of shift detection and standard brake levers without motor inhibitors. The motor used here is a new one from TranzX called the M25GTS that measures speed, cadence and pedal torque to adjust power output dynamically. But it’s not especially loud, the larger chainring has a limited RPM output but offers lots of power so you really feel a boost when shifting gears up. From integrated LED lights that run off the main battery pack to a cafe style frame lock, full length plastic fenders with mud flaps, a seat post suspension, upgraded Wellgo platform pedals and a standard gauge rear rack it will get the job done rain or shine, night or day and it’s extremely fast… As a Class 3 speed pedelec it’s capable of hitting 28 mph in the highest level of assist when pedaling with the higher gears. The E3 ProTour is one of the coolest looking ebikes in the entire 2016 lineup from IZIP because the battery is integrated, the circular motor hides behind the chainring and you get every sort of accessory you could ever want to make it the perfect commuting platform. Primary care professionals documented a fundoscopic examination for 93 patients (12.1%) all results were documented as normal. RESULTS: Among the 767 adult patients with diabetes included in the analysis, 387 (50.5%) were female, and the median age was 64 years (IQR, 54-71 years). The PCP examination results were compared with diagnoses made by eye care professionals to assess the sensitivity and accuracy of the findings from PCP examinations. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to identify patient, clinician, and clinic factors associated with PCPs performing fundoscopy at least once in the calendar year. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES: The frequency of PCPs performing fundoscopy at least once in the calendar year for patients with diabetes. EXPOSURE: Fundoscopic examination by PCPs. Data analysis was performed from January 2021 to May 2022. Data from 2001 encounters were abstracted from the electronic health record for a random sample of 767 patients. From a single-institution primary care network of 28 clinics, 7449 adult patients with diabetes seen at least once in the primary care network in 2019 were eligible for this study. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: A retrospective cohort study was performed using random sampling and manual review of electronic health records of PCP fundoscopic examination documentation compared with documentation of an examination performed by an eye care professional (ophthalmologist or optometrist) within 2 years before or after primary care encounters. OBJECTIVES: To assess the practice patterns of fundoscopic examination for DR screening in a large primary care network and to evaluate the sensitivity and accuracy of PCP fundoscopy for detecting DR. Data on current DR screening practice patterns in primary care are needed to inform screening strategies. IMPORTANCE: Primary care professionals (PCPs) have a central role in screening for diabetic retinopathy (DR), especially in settings where access to specialty eye care is limited. |
